The Buteyko Breathing Method is “named after Russian Dr Konstantin Buteyko who discovered that breathing a volume of air greater than metabolic requirements negatively affects our health depending on genetic predisposition. Characteristics of overbreathing include; mouth breathing, regular sighs, regular sniffing, feeling an air shortage, irregular breathing, upper chest breathing, excessive breathlessness from physical exertion, waking up with a dry mouth and holding of the breath during sleep.” (Source – ButeykoClinic.com)
